Binary De Bruijn sequences for DS-CDMA systems: analysis and results

چکیده
Code division multiple access (CDMA) using direct sequence (DS) spread spectrum modulation provides multiple access capability essentially thanks to the adoption of proper sequences as spreading codes. The ability of a DSCDMA receiver to detect the desired signal relies to a great extent on the auto-correlation properties of the spreading code associated to each user; on the other hand, multi-user interference rejection depends on the crosscorrelation properties of all the spreading codes in the considered set. As a consequence, the analysis of new families of spreading codes to be adopted in DS-CDMA is of great interest. This article provides results about the evaluation of specific full-length binary sequences, the De Bruijn ones, when applied as spreading codes in DSCDMA schemes, and compares their performance to other families of spreading codes commonly used, such as msequences, Gold, OVSF, and Kasami sequences. While the latter sets of sequences have been specifically designed for application in multi-user communication contexts, De Bruijn sequences come from combinatorial mathematics, and have been applied in completely different scenarios. Considering the similarity of De Bruijn sequences to random sequences, we investigate the performance resulting by applying them as spreading codes. The results herein presented suggest that binary De Bruijn sequences, when properly selected, may compete with more consolidated options, and encourage further investigation activities, specifically focused on the generation of longer sequences, and the definition of correlation-based selection criteria.

Nonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems
Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...
متن کاملBit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
متن کاملAn Analysis on the Effect of the Number of Phases in Multipath Fading DS-CDMA Signature Sequences
Direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) communication systems using random polyphase sequences with coherent reception in multipath fading channels are considered. By examining the asymptotic characteristics of the multiple access interference and multipath interference, we show that the DS-CDMA system performance with random mp-phase sequences of mp 3 is better than that with r...
متن کاملSpreading Sequences Generated Using Asymmetrical Integer-Number Maps
Chaotic sequences produced by piecewise linear maps can be transformed to binary sequences. The binary sequences are optimal for the asynchronous DS/CDMA systems in case of certain shapes of the maps. This paper is devoted to the one-to-one integer-number maps derived from the suitable asymmetrical piecewise linear maps. Such maps give periodic integer-number sequences, which can be transformed...
متن کاملDS/CDMA signature sequences based on PR-QMF banks
In this paper, we propose two classes of multivalued signature sequences for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems. The proposed classes are obtained from the coefficients of the subbands of perfect reconstruction quadrature mirror filterbanks (PR-QMF). The first and second classes are derived from the tree and lattice structure PR-QMF banks, respectively, and they bot...
